Here we will show you two different methods you can use to determine if 3 is a factor of 139.
The first method entails simply listing all factors of 139 and then seeing if 3 is one of them. The factors of 139 are 1 and 139. Looking at the list, you see that 3 is not on the list, and the answer to "Is 3 a factor of 139?" is therefore no.
For the second and perhaps easier method, we divide 139 by 3 to see if the quotient is a whole number or fractional number. If the quotient is a whole number, then 3 is a factor of 139. If the quotient is a fractional number, then 3 is not a factor of 139.
139 divided by 3 is 46.33333333 which is a fractional number. Thus, once again, the answer to "Is 3 a factor of 139?" is no.
